Guelmim Airport
Guelmim, Morocco

In an historic southern-Moroccan town known as the gateway to the Sahara and close by the Atlantic coast, the airport provides access to new tourism developments in the area. The building is conceived as a piece of land art, a glass box wrapped in a multi-coloured perforated-metal protective skin hung from the large overhanging roof of the steel-frame building. The simple plan runs parallel to the runways and facilitates the operation of a compact building; on one side the arrival and departure halls lead to a central bank of facilities for customs formalities; ticketing and waiting areas are located on the other side; and flexible partitioning facilitates reorganisation of the interior volumes.
