Established in the 16th c., the L-shaped tanneries is accessed from Bab Maqabar It is significantly smaller than the more famous <a href="https://www.archnet.org/sites/10359" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chouara Tanneries</a> in <a href="https://www.archnet.org/authorities/3657" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Fes</a> or the Bab Debbagh Tanneries in <a href="https://www.archnet.org/authorities/3820" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Marrakech</a>. The water from the tanneries come from the skundo (squndo) water system(1) in the medina.
