The museum is housed in a converted family dwelling which also contains the headquarters of the department of antiquity. The ground floor was converted for exhibition purposes with 16 rooms and galleries added for the display of artifacts and ethnolographical materials.
The collections of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography were moved to the
National Museum of Saudi Arabia in 1999.
