S11 House
Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

This three storey, single-family home built to replace a dilapidated house in an existing suburb employs a series of measures to create an environmentally-friendly tropical dwelling. Sited to nestle among and preserve the mature trees on site, it employs an extensive roofing structure that finds inspiration in their canopy. Thermal efficiency and ventilation are key design considerations: significant fenestration and openings are only placed on the north and south elevations, while a host of features, including light pipes with glazed pyramid turbines are exploited to assure an overall building envelope thermal efficiency. Solar photovoltaic panels, solar hot water, recycled materials from the demolished structure, and numerous other green measures are utilised.
