Bayt al-Shami Museum
Damascus, Syria
The restoration, reconstruction, and adaptive re-use of an 18th century Damascene style house into a museum. All of the rooms of this two-storey house have been restored. The northern qa'a was totally rebuilt as it had been destroyed by fire. The courtyards' marble patterned floorings and decorative fountains were also restored. The works were executed by local artisans using traditional materials.
