The pier is a 3-storey building, comprising a restaurant, bar, and owner’s apartment on the top floor. The design has openings on all elevations which provide views through to the sea and aids natural ventilation. This strategy also helps other surrounding buildings, as the natural sea breeze is not obstructed. The primary surface cladding is dark stained - Thermowood -, which tries to emulate old wood that weathers and ages naturally. All materials needed to be easily sourced by the local contractor, due to the island’s location away from the main-land.
