This house is in the high density suburbs of Jakarta and forms a new model for affordable housing. The client purchased the land gradually, ending up with a narrow sloping site. The design concept is a modern interpretation of the traditional floating platform house, where the ground floor is reserved for living and can be fully opened to the air. A box above it contains bedrooms. A concrete frame switches to lightweight steel for the upper level, where it is clad in reclaimed wood. The building is pulled away from its southern boundary to allow light and air to penetrate and to manage rainfall run off.
