Jraba Square has a key place in the historic fabric of Kairouan. Located at the medina's centre, at the nexus of residential quarters, souks, and historic monuments, it was nonetheless neglected over the years. Early 20th century interventions overlooked it, and it gradually lost its former stature. This project has set out to resurrect Jraba square and reintegrate it in the touristic circuit of Kairouan. Enhanced pedestrian and vehicular circulation is at the heart of this strategy, as well as the enrichment of the urban space. This includes not only the removal of elements that detract from the urban experience, but also a rehabilitation of facades and the reintegration of the square as a major urban amenity in the historic medina.
