Urban and Sociocultural Redevelopment
Eskisehir, Türkiye

This settlement is the oldest part of Eskisehir, with Byzantine and Ottoman remains, but it had fallen into disrepair since urban migration began in the 1950s. The redevelopment comprises a residential area with restaurant; a cultural centre with library, museums and performing arts centre; and a social housing centre with training facilities, workshops and health centre. The original structures have been restored, creating a heritage zone for Odunpazari and attracting further investment and new businesses to the area. The rehabilitation is economic as well as sociocultural and stands as a model for similar settlements internationally.
