Nashr Yadavaran Administrative Building
Tehrān, Iran

These publishing company offices have been created by restoring a building in central Tehran, reusing existing materials where possible. Restrictions imposed by the weight of the structure have been addressed by adding internal pillars to supplement the load-bearing walls, replacing internal brick walls with partitions and installing lighter ceilings. As there is little public space in this part of the city, the entrance courtyard has been treated as a semi-public plaza, leading in turn to an open passage that runs the length of the building. The rich colour of the stone facades is intended to add interest to the surrounding neighbourhood.
