This project comprises a monument to honour those killed in the creation of Pakistan and a museum to tell the country’s story. These elements are placed on axis and tied together by a plaza with cascading fountains. The monument consists of four large petals representing the main provinces and three smaller petals denoting minority groups. Each is independent but together they form a nation, symbolically arranged around the star and crescent of the Pakistani flag. The museum is unobtrusive, ‘bowing down’ in respect for the people. Together they are intended to inspire patriotism and unity among a youth that is rapidly fragmenting under the radical tensions of regionalism.
