Tourism places a great strain on many areas of natural beauty. The Olive Garden development - a gated community of 11 holiday villas - attempts to address this issue by embracing sensitive construction. The architectural parti is rooted in a form of Critical Regionalism, 'blending vernacular building materials with modernist dimensions'. Ventilated double walls reduce energy consumption by blocking radiant heat both through their internal insulation and their external sheath of 12cm-thick slabs of local 'Hatay' stone. Other green features include solar panels, sliding timber louvres and large windows facilitating natural ventilation.
