The project was executed in two parts: the first part consisted of upgrading the infrastructure and improving the urban environment, the first time that the settlement had benefitted from such a comprehensive programme. The second part was conducted on an experimental basis and consisted of the beautification of the two to three storey buildings in the neighbourhood. Simple plaster mouldings, painted white were added around all the existing windows of the houses. A brownish coloured earth was also applied as a rendering to the facades, after it was discovered that, mixed with lime and water, it proved suitable for the task and gave a visual unity to the neighbourhood.
