Chraka and Bab Essour Housing
Monastir, Tunisia

The overall architectural treatment is inspired from the Arabo-Mauresque style of adjoining constructions and other historic buildings in the town, with arcades resting on round arches and columns. The Chraka building comprises an open inner courtyard decorated with a fountain. Great care has been taken to ensure a panoramic view over the sea from most flats.
The Chraka complex includes:
- 19 shops and a bank on the ground floor;
- 29 flats on the three upper floors; and
- ten offices with a separate entrance on the first floor.
The Bab Essour complex comprises:
- 13 shops on the ground floor; and
- 18 identical flats on the three upper storeys.
