The courtyard design adopted for this mosque attempts to create a transition space between the undefined, empty surroundings of the building and the prayer hall. The mosque is not exactly street-aligned in order to respect orientation towards Mecca . A first arcade leads into the forecourt, with the minaret placed on the left handside. A Qatari decorative architectural feature, in the shape of a foliate bracket, has been reproduced here as a pre-cast concrete element and applied to the spandrels of doors, arcades and windows throughout the building.
