American University of Cairo: New Campus Development
Cairo, Egypt
"The American University in Cairo (AUC) is relocating its current downtown Cairo campus to a site in New Cairo. Expansion of academic programs, a growing student body, and the lack of physical resources to sustain these growths prompted this relocation decision.

In 1997, AUC purchased a 260 acres (approximately 1 million square meters) plot of land in New Cairo. The built areas of the new campus will comprise approximately 180,000 gross square meters, leaving ample room for further expansion.

The new campus is being designed to accommodate 5,500 full-time students, in addition to 1500 faculty and staff.

The projected cost of the project is approximately US$300 million, and the new campus is expected to be in operation by Fall 2007."
