A Janus house, with two opposing faces that respond in different ways to the encroachment of the urban into its rural setting. The front -- with its walls and pillars of stone -- addresses the urban from the viewpoint of a 'primitive man'. The rear of the house, which faces the remnants of a small plantation, reverses the primal imagery to evoke the figure of a 'modern man in a forest'.
