Monument for the Kazakh People
Almaty, Kazakhstan

A monument that commemorates a decisive battle of 1729 in which the Kazakhs overcame their Djungar conquerors. Two granite markers represent two peoples, set against each other. Red is for the Kazakhs, grey for the Djungars. The angular forms of the markers accentuate the drama of the conflict.
