Post-Earthquake Rehabilitation
Ludiya, India
Rehabilitation project in Gujarat, following the structural and humanitarian devastation caused by a recent earthquake. With the help of the local community, a total of 455 adobe and thatch bhungas - circular in form - were built, each equipped with solar lighting, sanitation and a smokeless stove. Construction became an important source of employment for the villagers who not only helped build adobe dwellings but also assisted with the construction of five schools, several health centres, community centres, shrines, administrative offices, water harvesting ponds, and check dams.
