Lifesaving project to provide clean and safe drinking water to a village on the banks of the river Nile. Hitherto, villagers used unfiltered river water for drinking, cooking and washing, leading to the rapid spread of disease. Since the implementation of this 12-metre deep well, consisting of a water tank, several pumps and a distribution network of pipes, each household enjoys regular access to clean water. Funded by several organisations, and run and maintained by the community, this local endeavour has contributed immeasurably to the health and economic well being of villagers.
