Rural Artisans' Center
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

The training center is situated in the downtown area of the capital of Upper Volta. Imposed by the clients to be near their HQs, the site lies within a courtyard formed by two existing buildings and party wall. The rectangular plan distinctly expresses the two programmatic functions:
- the public teaching centre, a large classroom comprising three equal, vaulted bays; and
- three private administrative offices, and the semi-public library and archive.

Simple, easily-learned construction techniques are employed for all dome, vault, and arch structures. Earth is the principal building material that had been exploited due to its qualities of thermal insulation, compresive strength, low cost, and easily-available abundance.
