Khong Guan Factory Conservation & Expansion
Singapore, Singapore

On a triangular corner site, a listed 3-storey biscuit factory built in the 1950s has been restored and renovated, and a new 8-storey addition was erected above it; the original building now contains offices and warehouse spaces, and the new structure provides office and light industrial spaces. The restoration included structural reinforcement of the original concrete structure, reorganisation of the internal spaces, and the installation of new, operable, louvred-glass windows; a new coffee shop on the ground floor also permits the public to visit and enjoy the restored heritage building. The 8-storey extension is a reinforced concrete post-and-beam construction with cantilevered open terraces that are landscaped as sky gardens.
