St. Georges Tower
Singapore, Singapore

St. George’s Tower, a 1.8-hectare site at Kallang Whampoa, takes up the challenge of public housing by crafting a high-quality communal living area while achieving a good contextual fit. The Project comprises of a multi/storey care park, a purpose-built active aging hub and three towering residential blocks of heights up to 34 stories, with a total of 738 units. Despite its high density, the Project opens up view-corridors while preserving the privacy of individual units. Green spaces were distributed vertically in shared areas of the complex, as well as in communal gardens. The six-storey carpark block, which also uses vertical greenery, shields the Project from Serangoon Road while stepping down in scale to match existing shophouses. Communal and open spaces were woven through the estate. The active aging hub was placed in front of the multigenerational playground, opening up possibilities for interaction between the various groups of people.
