Noghli House Complex
Kashan, Iran

The project seeks to immerse visitors into the traditional lives, societies, and architecture of the old city of Kashan. Begun 22 years ago, a traditional home was renovated first; since then, two other traditional homes and a row of shops located between them have been renovated. Traditional mud-brick was employed throughout; the minimal use of modern materials is reversible. As well as guest rooms, various parts of the interiors, courtyards, and roof terraces serve as gathering spaces for readings, music and drama performances, dining, and interaction with local residents, artisans, and visiting artists. As well as architectural interventions, the project has driven community participation and solidarity.
