Teluk Memali Mosque Relocation
Ipoh, Malaysia

Due to flooding, a 1910 riverside mosque was initially relocated to a palm plantation where it was abandoned some twenty years ago; it was relocated again in 2015 to serve a community some 60 km distance from the original location. The prayer hall of the timber mosque accommodates 150 worshippers and is used outside of prayer hours as a classroom and community space; a 1948 annex building was also relocated and restored. The mosque and annex were thoroughly surveyed, then dismantled and transported to the new site where 70% of the original elements were cleaned and repaired before being re-erected.
