Salim Habib Educational Complex
Toba Tek Singh, Pakistan

For higher-secondary students in science and commerce, the five-storey building contains lecture halls, classrooms, a computer lab and 34 science labs, two seminar halls, and a double-height library as well as administrative and faculty offices, all arranged around an open and planted courtyard shaded by three tensile-fabric canopies. Particular attention is given to natural climate control, and the double-skin exterior walls feature perforated outer walls made of locally-produced open-spaced bricks, with inner walls of operable windows. Air flows naturally throughout all areas of the building, and is evacuated through the central courtyard. The building is the first phase of an education and healthcare campus on a 50-hectare site in rural Pakistan.
