Msheireb Mosque
Doha, Qatar

The mosque is located within the Heritage Quarter and part of a 30-hectare development project for downtown Doha. Intended to express modernism within the context of traditional Qatari architecture, the mosque takes the form of a perfect cube that emphasises simplicity, functionality, and spirituality. It is constructed of white local stone, and the perforated, patterned roof of the prayer hall permits the entrance of tempered natural light. A stone colonnade encloses the courtyard which features a pond and water channel and is planted with pomegranate, olive, and date trees.
