To meet the contemporary needs of the local municipality, this Ottoman-era town hall, the first to be built in Istanbul, has been preserved, with contemporary additions built to the left and right and behind the original building, and a roof addition built in the 1980s removed and replaced with a steel and glass addition. The new block to the left of the main building serves as office space, to the right is a communications centre and canteen, and a transparent box behind the building connects it to a historical cistern, an area that is used as exhibition space.
