In designing this visitor centre for the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in Jordan, the architects based the scheme on an understanding of the cultural landscape, and creating a unique destination for nature and responsible tourism. The layout of the centre creates an interactive journey along an "architectural promenade", all the while maintaining a close connection between indoor and outdoor spaces that offer myriad possibilities to view the wildlife in the Reserve. The material used, different types of volcanic basalt sourced locally, creates a positive contrast with the land geology and its green cover. The environmentally responsive architecture makes use of a solar chimney and solar panels on the roof.
