Astana Train Station
Astana, Kazakhstan

Consisting of a mixed-use terminal building, a car park, and an enclosed space including a long, covered railway platform, the new Astana train station stands along the axial ceremonial route from the presidential palace as a symbol of the modern and contemporary aspects of the new capital of Kazakhstan. The monolithic structure of the roof, its curved form peaked over the main terminal area, defines and protects the area below and is constructed of lightweight steel to ensure strength and durability and good resistance against harsh weather conditions. The station is designed to be accessible by both vehicular transport and pedestrians, with links to the surrounding parks and residential zones.
