The enlargement of an existing hospital facility that had exceeded capacity, the completed phase contains two hospital buildings (with 36 beds) and a concrete walkway to connect all of the buildings during the 4-month rainy season. The new facilities are contained within four Nubian-style vaults made of mud bricks, requiring no formwork and minimal construction skills, and laid on concrete foundations. The vaults are all 3.3 metres in width, but of variable length. The exterior walls are finished with laterite, and the roofs of the vaults are plastic-covered and mud-plastered. The second phase (completion in 2019) will be an additional building to house a pharmacy, laboratory, and offices.
