The Kitob Olami or "Book World" complex is a reconstruction of a shopping centre building dating from 1968. The largest bookshop in Uzbekistan, the complex is divided into five zones, two of which are a lounge and cafeteria, and different book departments. The bookstore also includes a gallery with a display of gift editions and art books, an internet cafe, and a youth club. The construction involved the reinforcement of the roof’s metal structure, redesign of the interior, and replacement of the mechanical systems. Non-combustible materials such as porcelain stoneware and non-combustible basalt heaters were applied to the facade.
