An overarching objective for this project to preserve the Kasbah Taourirt was to develop a methodology that holistically addressed economic, social, cultural, and technical challenges that could then serve as a model for similar sites in the region. The project sought to establish an appropriate conservation process that respected the original fabric, preserved building traditions, promoted earthen architecture, developed participatory processes, and built local capacity. Interventions have focused on the conservation and rehabilitation of significant structures in the Kasbah, proposed adaptive reuse programming in certain cases, and the conservation of wall paintings on the interior of the Caid Residence, one of the most highly decorated spaces.
