Located on an urban, low-rise, residential street, this house stands out amidst its neighbours with its "planter box" facade: protruding, concrete boxes planted with over 40 types of edible plant--a green urban landscape visible both to the public and from the interior of the house. In addition to the green facade, the passive design strategies include a bubble deck floor slab with good thermal insulation, and locally sourced bamboo as formwork for the concrete walls, which gives them an organic look and texture. The plantings are watered through a custom-made irrigation system, allowing the owners to conduct their experiments with urban farming and self-sufficient living.
