Atlas Bookstore seeks to redefine libraries and bookstores into civic spaces, and to expose publications on Middle Eastern and North African architecture and urbanism to a wider audience. Its collection - in various languages, and including the latest editions as well as old, rare volumes - is constantly growing. Visitors can purchase volumes or consult them at length in comfort, with librarian and digital resources on hand to aid research. Its main home is a semi-cylindrical space behind the lobby of the Sheraton Doha, a 1984 hotel by William Pereira that attempted to modernise Islamic architectural principles. Both this and its temporary outposts in nonconventional spaces across the region feature custom-made, locally crafted furniture, while also showcasing pieces by international architects.
