Evliya Çelebi (Seyahatnâmesi, 1:98a) describes the tomb: “Fatih Sultan Mehmed died in 886 [1481] at a place called Maltepe, in the vicinity of Üsküdar, and he is buried under a colossal dome within an irem vineyard in a mosque whose inscriptions indicate that he is the conqueror of Istanbul.”
