The palace built by Yusuf III was transformed after the conquest of Granada into the residence of the count of Tendilla, the first governor (alcaide) of the Alhambra, and excavated and restored in the twentieth century by Torres Balbás. According to Münzer (Viaje, 37 and C. Brothers, “Renaissance Reception”), the count of Tendilla lived in the Moorish style, inviting Münzer to sit on silk carpets and offering him preserves and other delicacies before showing him the gardens with their lemon trees, myrtles, ponds, and marble floorwork.
When the marquis of Mondejar was removed from his position as alcaide of the Alhambra by Philip V, he destroyed his house.
