<p>This video is the third and a series inspired by the book Arab-American Faces and Voices by Elizabeth Boosahda (Austin: University of Texas Press, 2003). It focuses on the houses of worship of the first wave of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th century, most of whom were Christians from the area once considered Greater Syria (contemporary Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Palestine), and more recent immigration that has included much larger numbers of Muslim immigrants.</p>

The first Maronites came to Worcester in 1893. They worshipped in Roman Catholic churches for 30 years before purchasing a Gothic-style Presbyterian church originally built in 1884. The new church opened on June 29, 1923, after renovations. The church operated out of those premises for nearly a century before opening a new church at 341 June Street.
