Located on the southern wall of
the Alhambra complex, the Justice Gate or the Gate of the Esplanade, is one of
the main entrances to the complex.
The Justice Gate consists of a
brick horseshoe arch on the exterior facade with Islamic symbols carved into
the keystone of the arch including the well-known key symbol carved into the
arch. The Gate, built by Yusuf I of Granada was completed in 1348/749 AH.
On the interior facade of the
Gate, the horseshoe vaulted arch with inscriptions dates the construction to
Yusuf I of Granada and was also completed in 1348/ 749 AH.
