Sharifi-ha House
Tehran, Iran

The House, distributed over seven floors, is for a family of four. The spatial qualities of the interiors, as well as the formal configuration of its exterior, directly respond to the displacement of turning boxes that lead the building volume to become open or closed, obtaining an introverted or extroverted character. The German-fabricated turning mechanism is the same method used in turning theatrical scenes. The open/closed nature of the building volume is a reference to traditional Iranian houses, which offered both winter and summer living rooms. These changes may occur according to functional scenarios of floor plans as well as changing seasons. This transformation from a two-dimensional façade to a three-dimensional one was determined by a long and narrow plot.
