This
building is located on a very narrow Arnavutkoy lot overlooking the Bosphorus
Straits. The four floors and a loft within the top floor accommodate living,
sleeping and study spaces. To connect the street to the backyard at the entry level,
all spaces required by the program – living area, fireplace, kitchen, eating –
are tucked to one side of the entry and yard door axis. The depth of living
space is emphasized by the exposed plaster wall, detailing of reveals, and the
lighting track. Exposed plastered surfaces are utilized on all ceilings, bathroom
walls, the fireplace chimney wall, and on stair risers. The cathedral ceiling
of the top level allowed the insertion of a sleeping / storage loft above the
bathroom and stairwell.
