In this new house on a hillside in Imelghas, (Central Atlas mountain region) traditional forms, materials and layout are combined with new techniques and modern comfort. The plan reflects a traditional organization. Through a covered passage, the main entry leads to an open court protected by a substantial surrounding wall. Two levels are superimposed: the lower, ground floor is reserved for domestic animals and utilities. The central staircase leads to the upper floor and the living quarters. It is built from stabilized earth walls on stone foundations, timber floors supported on small tree trunks.
