Designed as a private residence, the Arewa house was converted to a Historical Documentation Centre in 1973. In 1989, due to increasing patronage, plans were prepared for the comprehensive design, redevelopment, and expansion of the facilities. The new Arewa complex includes an auditorium, museum, library, and restaurant. The new facilities are independent but integrated into the entire complex.
