Maadi Faculty Apartments
Cairo, Egypt

The project consists of 20 apartments (twelve, split-level three-four bedroom units, and eight, one-three bedroom units) with below grade parking and storage. The design is intended to blend western and Egyptian architectural traditions consistent with the historic role of the American University in Cairo. A principal feature is the further development of the split-level double height apartment unit configuration with horizontal circulation on alternate floors used by Le Corbusier in his Marseilles apartment block project. In addition, standard apartment units are replicated in a variety of different orientations and configurations through reverse symetrical and rotated plan and section permutations.
