Upper Church Street Mosque
Pietermaritzburg, South Africa

The Upper Church Street Mosque was founded in 1903 by the local businessman Amod Bayat. It is surrounded on all four sides by a courtyard that is accessible through an entry on Church Street. The prayer hall is a rectangular space fronted by a three arched patio containing the abolutions area. By the 1980s, the structure had fallen into a state of disrepair and was renovated.
