The Islamic Educational Center of Orange County (IECOC) first opened its doors in September 1996 in a small rented building in Irvine, the first mosque established in the city. The community quickly outgrew the small facility, and inaugurated a new location at its current site in Costa Mesa in December 1999. The IECOC is located in one-story rectangular-plan building situated in a complex of similar commercial buildings. The building has no external Islamic architecture features. Inside, the prayer hall has a tile inscription band running around the perimeter walls, and a mihrab ornamented with tile.
