ABSTRACT
The Principles of Straight Urban Planning
مبانی طرحهای سیال شهری
The Principles of Straight Urban Planning is about a new method in developing urban planning systems in Iran. The solution proposed by the author to overcome the constraints of the existing planning system in Iran is highly innovative. However, he does not claim to formulate a new theory in urban planning and insists that his book offers solutions to shortcomings in the Iranian planning system.
By evaluating twenty-five examples of master city planning in Iran, the author has established their flaws and suggested ways to avoid them. He has formulated a new theory which he calls “straight urban planning.” Contrary to Euclidean geometry, this theory is inspired by the principles of fractal geometry. It emphasises the uncertainties provoked by inflexible decisions.
In previous similar researches on the planning system in Iran, only the existing mechanism was criticised and no efficient solution was proposed. By contrast, in this book Mashhudi proposes an alternative to the inefficient and old-fashioned developing plans in Iran. The book distinguishes itself from other studies by presenting new theories and methods for approaching the subject of urban planning.
