Blair and Bloom
Sheila Blair and Jonathan Bloom have taught at several colleges and universities in the United States and Europe, and worked as independent scholars and editors. Blair and Bloom have written individually and jointly about many aspects of Islamic art and architecture. Together, they are the authors of several books including The Art and Architecture of Islam: 1250-1800 (New Haven: Yale University 1994) and Islam: A Thousand Years of Faith and Power (New Haven: Yale University Press, 2001). Sheila Blair did her doctoral research in Iran, Afghanistan, and the then-Soviet Central Asia from 1976 to 1978. Jonathan Bloom did his doctoral research in 1977-78 in countries around the Mediterranean. Subsequent research trips that they made to Morocco and Soviet Central Asia in the 1980s also add to their rich collection of architectural photographs. This collection contains over fourteen hundred images of monuments in Egypt, Iran and West Turkestan.
