Arab general best known for the conquest of the Maghreb. He served the Rashidun Caliphate starting with Umar (r. 634-644/13-23 AH), and subsequently the Umayyad Caliphate during the reigns of Muawiyah I (r. 660-680/40-60 AH) and Yazid I (r. 680-683/60-63 AH).
