Dr. Gülsüm Baydar Nalbantoğlu is one of the leading architectural historians in Turkey, focusing on women in architecture. She received a B.A.(1979) and M.A.(1981) from Middle East Technical University (
Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi), before continuing her studies at the University of California, Berkeley, where she received her Ph.D. in 1989.
Dr. Nalbantoğlu has taught internationally, lecturing in California, Singapore, Australia and Cambridge. From 1998 until 2005, she taught in the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Bilkent University. She is currently the Chair of the Department of Architecture at Izmir University of Economics.
Her research interests include gendered spaces and current discourses on space and spatiality.
